Set terminal and editor text in a slanted, consistent-width style with Cascadia Mono Italic Font, a Microsoft typeface designed for coding displays. Its monospaced construction gives every character the same horizontal spacing, helping columns, prompts, and code align clearly. The italic treatment adds visual distinction while preserving Cascadia’s recognizable design.

The font is derived from Cascadia Code Italic but omits programming ligatures, so character sequences remain individual glyphs instead of becoming combined forms. It includes a standard italic style and a cursive alternative available through the ss01 stylistic set, although support for that OpenType feature varies by application. In Visual Studio Code, stylistic sets and other OpenType options can be enabled through settings.json; environments without ss01 support can use opentype-feature-freezer to apply such changes. Windows Terminal is a natural setting for it, while Cascadia is also the default font in Visual Studio.

Developers and Windows users can use it when a terminal or code editor needs an italic monospaced option rather than the regular style. The recommended TrueType variable format supports weights from 200 through 700 and offers the strongest hinting on Windows and other systems using TrueType hinting; static TTF files cover cases requiring one weight but have lower hinting quality. Static OTF files are available for OTF users, with no variable OTF edition, and WOFF2 files come in variable and static forms for web use.
