Compositor1.28.0

Write and revise LaTeX documents by editing their rendered pages directly, with changes appearing immediately as you type. Compositor 1.28.0 is a freeware Reading & Writing application for macOS 10.15 or newer, with native support for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Its defining feature is a WYSIWYG editing surface that preserves the precision of LaTeX while making the result visible during composition.

When source-level control matters, its dedicated LaTeX editor provides syntax highlighting, smart completions, and other coding assistance. A graphical formula editor lets you assemble equations from reusable building blocks rather than entering every command manually. The application includes a TeXLive-based LaTeX distribution, while packages unavailable locally are fetched automatically from CTAN. It opens and saves ordinary plain-text .tex files, so existing documents remain usable without vendor-specific formats or lock-in.

Compositor suits students, researchers, and technical writers producing papers, reports, or theses, especially when frequent formula editing benefits from immediate visual feedback. Documents remain on the user’s machine and under their control, and the developer suggests placing them under Git version control. The macOS and Windows editions are native applications designed for quick startup, performance, and efficient memory use; Windows 10 or newer is supported on Intel/AMD and ARM hardware, though its Windows preview is still at the prototype stage. Both editions share the same core code and differ mainly in their interface layer, with feature parity planned for the future.
