Contour provides a modern terminal emulator for running command-line programs in a modal, virtual terminal. It targets power users who want contemporary terminal behavior for everyday work.

Font ligatures, bold and italic faces, 256-color and truecolor rendering, Unicode grapheme clusters, and emoji—including ZWJ, VS15, and VS16 sequences—keep terminal output readable and expressive. Daemon-mode persistent sessions survive window closure, can be reattached locally or over a network, and interoperate with tmux in both directions. Vertical history markers, Vi-like input modes, Vi-style scrolloff, customizable key bindings, runtime configuration reloads, and read-only mode support navigation, selection, copying, and protection against accidental input such as Ctrl+C.

It supports transparent backgrounds with blur on Windows 10 and later and on Linux’s KDE and GNOME desktops, along with blurrable background images, synchronized rendering through SM/RM 2026, and configurable text reflow through SM/RM 2028. Clickable OSC 8 hyperlinks, OSC 52 clipboard setting, Sixel inline images, ReGIS vector graphics for VT330/VT340, VT page-buffer capture, Fira Code-inspired progress bars, and VT320 host-programmable and indicator status lines extend terminal workflows.

Contour is also available for Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Windows, while this Apple Silicon (arm64) build requires macOS 13 Ventura or newer and a GPU driver supporting hardware-accelerated OpenGL 3.3 or a software rasterizer.
