About

dandelior* is an open-source Android client for diaspora*, a community-run, distributed social network. It is intended for people who use diaspora* through mobile devices and want access to its main functions in an Android application. The app presents diaspora* pod content in a mobile-oriented view while connecting users to the broader network.

It provides quick access to most diaspora* features and lets users adjust the application to their preferences. Content can be shared to and from the app, and proxy connections are supported, including Tor through Orbot. An in-app browser allows users to view articles without leaving the application. Users can also enable dark or AMOLED modes, browse tags and aspects, and use the app in any language it supports, even when that differs from the Android system language.

dandelior* can list pods for people looking for a place to register, with additional pod information available through podupti.me. Multiple accounts can be used on one device with dandelior* and dandelion*, which use different icons and default colors to distinguish them. The application uses the Android WebView component to display diaspora* pod content in its mobile view, so some missing functions or problems may relate to that mobile view.

In the Internet & Browsers category, dandelior* fits as an Android client for accessing a distributed social networking service through web-based pod content. MirrorNest distributes the official build directly from its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing it. This distribution provides an Android download while retaining the project’s open-source licensing.

Requires Android 4.2+
