Device Connect sends files from an Android phone to a desktop and retrieves files from directories designated on that desktop. From the phone, users can also open local files or web URLs on the desktop, while desktop notifications can be displayed on the phone-connected computer. It can trigger commands that were predefined on the desktop, giving the phone access to selected computer actions and resources.

The application runs recurring synchronization tasks for directories, contacts, SMS messages, and clipboard contents. AES-256 encryption with a password can protect communication between the devices. It is the Android client for dcnnt-py, so the dcnnt server component must be installed on the PC, and both devices must share a broadcast domain such as the same Wi-Fi network. Pairing supports a six-digit code generated by dcnnt pair, or password-based matching between the phone and the PC’s dcnnt configuration.

It suits people who regularly move files, share phone information, or launch selected desktop actions from a nearby phone. Device Connect is open-source Android software in the Internet & Browsers category, currently at version 0.12.1, with Universal architecture and support for Android 6.0 and newer; the client app must be installed on the phone.
