About

DVD or CD Sharing lets a MacBook Air access a CD or DVD inserted in a Windows PC’s optical drive over a wireless connection. The Mac can use that shared disc while the physical media remains in the PC, providing remote access to optical content. It also supports system software restoration, giving the MacBook Air a way to work with disc-based recovery media through the Windows computer.

To use the sharing feature, a user places the disc in the Windows computer and accesses the shared drive from the MacBook Air. The software also supplies the Windows-side support for wireless migration, allowing the MacBook Air to connect to that process over the network. These capabilities make it useful when a MacBook Air needs disc access, system restoration, or migration assistance from a disc-equipped PC.

Apple Inc. publishes DVD or CD Sharing for Windows, and the current version is 1.0.1.4. The Windows build uses x86 architecture. The associated Mac setup supports Mac OS X 10.4.10 and Mac OS X 10.5 or later. It is intended for MacBook Air owners working with a Windows computer that can provide the required optical media.
