Double-clicking a DMG with EasyDMG mounts the image, performs a security check, copies the app into /Applications, and opens it, replacing the usual drag-and-drop sequence. Setting EasyDMG as the default handler makes macOS send every DMG to it instead of DiskImageMounter. After the operation, the disk image unmounts automatically, and an optional setting moves the original DMG to the Trash.

EasyDMG applies the same Gatekeeper checks used by Apple without sending verified apps through additional confirmation trips to System Settings; unsigned apps produce a prompt that can be disabled in Settings. License agreements, multi-app DMGs, and pkg installers are handed back to the user after EasyDMG mounts the image. Preferences can show a hamster progress bar, display a brief notification, remain silent, open the installed app, or reveal it in Finder.

The program runs only for the few seconds an installation takes, then quits without leaving Dock or menu-bar clutter, icons, or daemons. Built natively in Swift, it uses neither Electron nor a web view and avoids a 250 MB installation footprint and heavy memory use. Sparkle can notify users when a newer release is ready.

Version 2.5.0 requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon, while its freeware license makes it suitable for people who regularly install software distributed as DMG files. Classified under System Tools, it takes about two seconds to configure through the “Set as Default for DMG Files” control.
