Amazon EC2Launch2.5.2.0

It runs launch-time tasks on Amazon EC2 Windows instances, preparing each instance as it starts. EC2Launch v2 also runs when an instance is stopped and started again or restarted, and administrators can invoke supported tasks on demand. Tasks are divided between those enabled automatically and those that require explicit configuration, with one-time tasks normally performed during the initial launch in a defined launch-stage order.

The service uses the agent-config.yml file to control boot, network, PreReady, and PostReady stages. Administrators can change this configuration through a graphical interface or by editing the YAML file directly, allowing an AMI’s default boot behavior to be customized. Its Windows event logs provide records for troubleshooting failures and creating event-based triggers, while its task support covers the capabilities of both the older EC2Config and EC2Launch services.

Amazon Web Services provides EC2Launch v2 by default in supported instances launched from Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025 AMIs. Windows Server 2016 and 2019 AMIs are also available with v2 as the default launch agent, alongside AMIs that use EC2Launch v1; v2 replaces both EC2Config and the earlier EC2Launch service.

Cloud administrators and AMI builders use Amazon EC2Launch to automate initialization and repeatable startup actions across Windows workloads. It is a Windows x64 System Tools utility, currently version 2.5.2.0, intended for EC2 environments where launch stages, restarts, and customized image behavior must be controlled centrally. Its default configuration contains recommended settings for standard Amazon Windows AMIs, which can be adjusted for a tailored image boot experience.
