Emacs (Pretest) lets you create, edit, search, and reorganize text in an extensible workspace built around buffers and keyboard commands. GNU Emacs handles ordinary prose as well as source code, making it useful for drafting documents, maintaining notes, and working on programming projects. Its editing tools include syntax-aware modes, configurable indentation, search and replacement, multiple open files, and commands for navigating large documents.

It is distributed as a pure Emacs build with no added extras, preserving the editor’s standard environment for people who want the GNU Emacs experience on a Mac.
