Evince opens documents on a Linux desktop so you can read, inspect, and navigate files from several established publishing and technical formats in one viewer. It is designed for the GNOME desktop environment and presents documents without requiring a separate viewer for each format. Supported files include PDF, PS, EPS, XPS, DjVu, TIFF, and DVI, with SyncTeX support for DVI documents.

The application also reads Comic Book archives in CBR, CBT, CBZ, and CB7 forms, covering material that may come from scanned collections, technical workflows, publishing sources, or digital comics. SyncTeX is useful when a DVI document is connected to its TeX source, allowing document locations to correspond with source positions.
