About

Open an OpenEXR image in Adobe Photoshop and have every channel placed on its own Photoshop layer with Exr-IO. This preserves the channel-based image data as separate, accessible components instead of reducing the file to one undivided image. The software also writes Photoshop image data back to OpenEXR, providing precise handling during both import and export.

The layer-per-channel workflow connects OpenEXR’s structure with Photoshop’s layer-based workspace, making individual channels available for inspection, compositing, and further editing. It is intended for artists, compositors, and other Photoshop users working with OpenEXR assets whose channel information must remain accessible. Typical uses include bringing rendered or production images into Photoshop while retaining the data needed for channel-specific adjustments.

Published by 3d-io GmbH, Exr-IO belongs to the System Tools category and runs on Windows systems using the x64 architecture. The current release is version 2.06.00 and works through Adobe Photoshop rather than serving as a general-purpose image editor. It is presented as free software, although its license is identified as unknown. OpenEXR compatibility and the separate-layer import model distinguish it from workflows that open the format as a single flattened image.
