Fcitx5 (Unikey Plugin)

Select the Unikey input method in Fcitx5 on Android to enter Vietnamese text through the Unikey engine. It solves the problem of adding Vietnamese composition to an Fcitx5-based keyboard environment, allowing users to write in Android text fields instead of relying on a separate editing application. The plugin’s distinguishing role is to connect Unikey’s Vietnamese input-method engine with Fcitx5 for Android.

Once available in Fcitx5, users can switch to Unikey while composing messages, documents, searches, and other text. It is aimed at Vietnamese speakers, bilingual Android users, and anyone who regularly needs Vietnamese input alongside other configured methods. Because it operates within Fcitx5, it is most useful in situations where one keyboard framework handles multiple input methods across the device.

Fcitx5 (Unikey Plugin) requires Android 6.0 or newer and supports the arm64-v8a architecture. It is open-source software. The current version is 0.1.3-0-g048f581c. Development progress and planned work can be followed on the project’s Trello board. Users can also join the project’s Matrix chat room or Telegram group for discussion, and those two communities are interconnected.
