FlightGear2024.1.7

Take the controls of a virtual aircraft, taxi from the runway, and fly a complete route while FlightGear reproduces the essential tasks of piloting. It gives aviation enthusiasts a way to explore aircraft handling, navigation, and airport operations without access to a real cockpit. The simulator combines flight dynamics with interactive cockpit instruments, allowing users to manage controls and respond to changing conditions during a flight.

FlightGear supports many aircraft types and lets pilots practice departures, approaches, and cross-country trips across a detailed virtual world. Its scenery includes airports and terrain for locating flights in recognizable geographic settings, while weather and time-of-day features add variation to the experience. Multiplayer flying also lets participants share the simulated skies and coordinate their activities with other pilots.

In the Games category, FlightGear suits aviation hobbyists, aspiring pilots, and anyone interested in realistic desktop simulation, from casual sightseeing to structured procedure practice. The macOS release supports Intel and Apple Silicon systems, and the current version is 2024.1.7. Distributed under a freeware license, it provides its full flight-simulation experience as a standalone program for users who want an aviation simulator on a Mac.
