FlightGear2020.3.8

FlightGear lets Linux users run a software-based flight simulator for studying and practicing aviation scenarios. It provides an educational environment in which learners can explore flight simulation rather than using a general-purpose utility. The program is suited to people who want to study or rehearse simulated flying in a focused desktop application.

The application and the FlightGear data files it needs are supplied separately. The current prototype snap does not include the data, so users must place the required files under $HOME/snap/flightgear/common/fgdata before using FlightGear. This requires creating the common directory, obtaining the FlightGear data archive, extracting its contents there, and removing the archive afterward. Keeping the executable and data apart distinguishes this release from an all-in-one application, and the present version does not automate that arrangement.

Snapcrafters publishes this unofficial Linux build from FlightGear source files under an open-source license. Version 2020.3.8 requires Linux with snapd and targets x86_64 (amd64) hardware. Users should therefore plan for both the simulator and its separately supplied data files when preparing the application.
