Use the FreedomBox Android app to discover FreedomBox servers on your network, view the services installed on a selected server, and launch their Android apps or web applications. It serves as a companion to a FreedomBox server, giving the phone a single place to reach the services that server provides. FreedomBox is a private home server designed for non-experts, allowing server applications to be installed and configured with a few clicks while keeping digital services and data under the owner’s control.

A FreedomBox can provide file sharing, decentralized group messaging, audio and video calls from any device, and a VPN for securely reaching home devices or protecting browsing on untrusted networks. It can host a personal blog or wiki, synchronize calendars and contacts, share media, and back up devices on the home network as Network Attached Storage. The server uses the owner’s internet connection and power and can run on inexpensive hardware of the owner’s choice, letting households share services with family and friends.

The app can save a FreedomBox and connect to it from anywhere, which suits people who want to access home files, websites, communications, or a VPN while away. FreedomBox is an official part of Debian, and the software is open-source under the open-source license; the broader project is supported by the nonprofit FreedomBox Foundation. This Android companion runs on Android 4.4 and later with Universal architecture.

Planned additions include saving server credentials for automatic login, installation guidance for various devices, and automatic configuration of an application using saved FreedomBox credentials.
