About

FreeProxy routes Android traffic through a SOCKS5 or HTTP CONNECT proxy as a system-wide VPN using VpnService, including for apps without proxy support. It can route all apps, an allow list, or a bypass list, rebuilding raw IP packets into TCP/UDP sessions in userspace before forwarding them upstream. Its TCP/IP stack is written in plain Kotlin, without NDK code or a bundled tun2socks binary.

Users can save multiple proxy profiles with optional username and password authentication, while a real handshake test verifies connectivity before a profile is saved. Per-profile DNS can resolve through the proxy for privacy or directly for speed; a colour-coded live log displays DNS lookups and each connection with the originating app and resolved hostname. A persistent notification provides live upload/download counters and one-tap disconnect, while options bypass private networks, block IPv6 leaks, stop on network loss, and start at boot. The Material 3 interface offers dynamic colour, light and dark themes, a tablet layout, English, and Simplified Chinese.

It suits Android users who need per-app routing or proxy coverage for apps lacking built-in proxy settings, and they must supply their own proxy server because FreeProxy provides none. Forwarding is IPv4-only: ping cannot pass through proxy protocols, and UDP requires a SOCKS5 server with UDP ASSOCIATE; otherwise DNS uses DNS-over-TCP and other UDP traffic is dropped. Proxy credentials are stored unencrypted in the app’s private directory, excluded from cloud backup, and per-app log attribution requires Android 10 or newer.

FreeProxy is open-source and supports Android 7.0+ on arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86. Version 1.0.3 has no functional changes from 1.0.2: it removes build-tool dependency metadata embedded in the APK signing block for Google Play and stops embedding the build-time Git commit, removing dependence on when the build was made.

What's new in v1.0.3

Build changes only — no functional changes since 1.0.2.

  • Removed the dependency metadata that the build tools embed in the APK signing block; it is opaque, proprietary data meant for Google Play
  • Stopped embedding the build-time git commit in the APK, so the build no longer depends on when it was made
