About
Plot mathematical functions as vivid, immediately rendered three-dimensional graphs with functy, turning equations into visual objects that can be examined in space. Developed by David Llewellyn-Jones, it is designed for visual exploration rather than simply displaying functions as written formulas.
The program handles Cartesian, spherical, and parametric curve functions, and lets you change those functions quickly while viewing the resulting graph. A time variable can animate functions, making changing mathematical relationships easier to observe. Mouse controls provide direct translation, zooming, and rotation of the 3D scene.
Functy renders on the GPU through shaders for responsive display, and it can export models in PLY, STL, or SVX format for 3D modeling and printing. Bitmap images and animations can be saved as PNG files, giving educators, students, and independent learners useful outputs for lessons, experimentation, and presentations.
The current 0.38 version runs on Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) systems. It is open-source software, and its Functy and libsymbolic code has moved to GitLab while the earlier project page remains archival.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
