Bring a recently used application back to the foreground with a single on-screen control instead of opening the system’s recent-apps view. Gardine provides a floating widget in the upper-right corner of the Android screen for switching between recently used applications. Keep a finger on the widget and swipe left to reveal the recent-applications list, where the newest app appears at the top.

Move your finger up or down to highlight another entry, then release to restore the selected application to the foreground. On its first run, Gardine asks for access to Android’s Accessibility service so it can track switches between applications. It also requests permission to display the floating widget above other windows, which allows the switcher to remain available over other apps.

The utility suits people who frequently alternate between a small group of apps and want a persistent, compact control for returning to them. Version 0.4 adds settings for choosing the widget’s screen position and adjusting its size. It also introduces a point-to-select mode as an alternative to swiping through the applications list. Gardine is a System Tools utility for Android 5.0 and later, uses Universal architecture, and is released under an open-source license.
