getgovroam

getgovroam configures a govroam Wi-Fi connection on an Android device so the user can connect through a participating organization. It uses the organization’s supplied details and the relevant credentials to create the supported network configuration, rather than serving as a general network-management utility.

An institution may offer several profiles, allowing the user to select the appropriate one; when only one profile exists, no selection is shown. For a profile containing only an eapconfig_endpoint, the app retrieves the .eap-config file from that URL without authentication, while profiles that also define token_endpoint and authorization_endpoint can start an OAuth 2 authorization flow. If the downloaded configuration lacks credentials, getgovroam asks for a username and password, including for PEAP/MSCHAPv2 configurations whose EAP types indicate that method. When the configuration and credentials are sufficient, native Android Wi-Fi configuration code receives the relevant settings.

The shared code fetches the institution list and downloads each .eap-config file, storing the file as a blob in a SQLDelight database; authorization and XML parsing are handled separately by the Android implementation. Android 10 and later use Wi-Fi suggestion capabilities, while Android 11 and later can ask the user to approve adding a saved network or Passpoint configuration through the system settings interface.

Version 2.3.1(2693) is intended for Android 8.0 or newer and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 devices. Its release notes record an SDK upgrade, and the project is distributed under an open-source license.
