About
GitNodes turns Markdown notes with YAML frontmatter into a navigable, editable knowledge graph, helping engineering teams follow decisions, incidents, systems, and the changes that superseded them. It keeps those notes in a Git repository as the authoritative content store, while presenting their connections for browsing and editing in a web UI. Typed relationships distinguish active decisions from superseded ones and connect incidents with systems, runbooks, action items, and people.
An example workflow traces a decision that made Redis a tier-one dependency through an incident that logged out 40% of users, the resulting postmortem, issue #145, and an ADR that reverses the original decision. The graph exposes that history, including the incoming supersedes edge marking ADR-0004 obsolete, instead of returning only an outdated text-search result. SQLite provides the searchable graph projection and can be deleted and rebuilt from a clean clone, keeping it separate from the Markdown knowledge base.
People browse and edit the graph in the web interface, while AI agents search and traverse the same working tree through read-only MCP tools and author changes through normal Git commits. Agents edit the checkout under the generated AGENTS.md, leaving ordinary Git diffs, and UI writes follow GitHub permissions by committing directly when allowed or using a pull request when review is required. These workflows suit engineering teams and AI-assisted work involving architecture decisions, operational incidents, postmortems, and runbooks.
Published by Andrea Bozzo for Windows on x64, the current release is 0.2.0 and runs as a single binary without a Rust toolchain. The deployable application uses AGPL-3.0-or-later, while its reusable domain, graph, authentication, and storage crates use Apache-2.0. GitNodes is categorized as System Tools and is built with Rust, Leptos, Axum, and SQLite.
