gpsdRelay sends GPS data from an Android device’s built-in GPS hardware to a system running gpsd, allowing other software to receive the device’s location over a network connection. It serves as a bridge for location information rather than as a general navigation app, so its purpose is to transmit readings instead of providing navigation functions.

The application formats transmitted data as standard NMEA messages, the kind commonly used by GPS receivers and other navigation equipment. It supports both UDP and TCP, allowing the transport method to match the requirements of the receiving gpsd setup. This suits Android users who want to supply a gpsd-based computer or service with location data from their mobile device.

In current version 2.2, default network-state monitoring makes the UDP broadcast server resolve its address dynamically according to the selected network interface. The release also fixes an incorrect checksum format in generated NMEA messages and includes minor cosmetic and server-logic corrections.

gpsdRelay runs on Android 7.0 or later and uses Universal architecture. It is open-source software, making it suitable for users who want the implementation available for inspection or further development.
