Bring a personal book collection into one self-hosted web workspace with Grimmory, so books and reading notes stay organized in a single place. Developed by Dan Bishop, it lets users manage, read, annotate, synchronize, and share their collection through their own Grimmory instance.

Readers can use it for everyday personal libraries, while students and educators can apply it to study materials that require attached notes and coordinated reading. Its self-hosted design makes the application more than a standalone reader: collection data and reading activity are handled by the user’s own running service. Grimmory is open-source and suited to people who want control over a managed digital library on their own system.

The current release is v3.5.0 and runs on Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) hardware. This distribution is an unofficial snap that uses a backend service together with a MariaDB database service, while the official Grimmory build remains its source. Books stored beneath /mnt or /media require the snap’s removable-media and mount-observe interfaces to be connected so Grimmory can access them.
