About
HardWhere lets staff record and inspect Snipe-IT assets from an Android device, including who lent each item to whom. It connects a central asset register with day-to-day accessory lending, but requires a custom setup around Snipe-IT. The open-source app belongs to the Internet & Browsers category, and the current version is 0.1.
Its mobile client works with Snipe-IT patches and a companion “lent-by” backend daemon. The daemon indexes lending relationships, provides return and lending APIs that update the index immediately, and handles requests under the HardWhere path. It also supplies a web view at /HardWhere/ for inspecting lent assets in a browser, while regularly applying the default fieldset to models that do not have one. Administrators can run the daemon alongside Snipe-IT and use Apache configuration to expose it at that path.
The integration is currently compatible with Snipe-IT 5.4.3, and newer Snipe-IT releases require an updated hardwhere.patch. The backend uses static templates, CSS, icons, and related files for its web view, and its logging can be tuned with RUST_LOG values such as trace, debug, info, warn, and error. Android 7.1 or later is required, with arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 builds available.
Building the backend requires rustc and Cargo, while the Android app can be built with Gradle or Android Studio; VS Code with rust-analyzer is recommended for backend development.
Requires Android 7.1+ · Architecture: arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, x86
