Harnest

Harnest detects a project’s technology stack and generates configuration for Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, OpenCode, and Qwen Code. It replaces manual maintenance of files such as CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules, and .windsurfrules with project-specific agent assignments and execution scopes. The interactive wizard asks which role and scope to use, accepts suggested choices, skips roles, searches installed agents, or lets you enter an agent name.

A detection-only mode reports technologies without creating configuration files, while later commands can change agent mappings, show current consilium roles and scopes, or generate configuration for another harness. Generated files remain editable Markdown, and CI or scripts can use automatic suggestions without the wizard, defaulting to Claude Code. The profile editor lets you choose stages, assign single-agent, consilium, bash, or empty roles, select role names, and generate stage transitions.

Harnest recognizes 92 stacks across more than 30 languages, scans every first-level directory for build files and dependency manifests, and gives each detected stack its own agent scope and directory path. Agent discovery covers the standard directories under Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, OpenCode, and Qwen, Claude plugin agents, and project-level .claude/agents and .cursor/ agents introduced in 0.12.0.

The x64 Windows program is published by Alex Gladkov. In version 0.12.0, harnest install creates a profile-router for Claude Code that resolves profiles, roles, agents, scopes, and models into an orchestration plan while leaving spawning to the main process; it also removes duplicate managed blocks and writes changes atomically with backups. Harnest is no longer maintained, and its publisher recommends migrating to workflows.
