Hauk lets you share your device’s live location so friends or family can follow your progress remotely. Starting a share creates a unique link that you can send to the people who need to track the journey. Anyone with that link can open a map showing the shared position in real time while the share remains active. Each location share stays available for a period you specify, so it can cover a trip, appointment, or other temporary situation.

This self-hosted service is useful when meeting someone at a changing location is easier with live tracking than with written directions. Sharing continues while Hauk is minimized through Android’s foreground service support, allowing the journey to be monitored in the background. The app sends location data only to the Hauk backend server configured within it, which must be installed separately on a server before the app can be used. Hauk uses precise location access to determine the device’s position, internet access to contact that backend, and foreground service access to maintain sharing while minimized.

Hauk is open-source software for Android in the Navigation & Travel category, intended for travelers, families, and friends coordinating in real time. It has a Universal architecture and requires Android 7.0 or newer. Version 1.6.3 adds support for Android versions through Android 13, while dropping Android 6 support for the time being because of compatibility issues.
