About

Inkwell is a lightweight, offline-first Markdown editor for Windows, designed for focused writing without cloud services, user accounts, or telemetry. It is intended for people who want to create and manage Markdown files locally while keeping their writing workflow centered on the desktop. Its workspace combines editing tools with features for reviewing, organizing, and presenting documents.

A split-view live preview lets users see rendered Markdown while they write, and a command palette provides an alternate way to access editor actions. Inkwell includes four built-in themes and a custom theme creator, along with support for Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math. A workspace file tree, file tabs, templates, find and replace, typewriter mode, and focus mode cover common writing and navigation tasks. Version history with a diff viewer helps users inspect changes, while file association handling and auto-save on focus loss support regular file-based use.

The application stores its data through SQLite-backed persistence and provides Typst-powered PDF export and standalone HTML export. These two export options are unlocked with a one-time Pro license, while the overall license status for Inkwell is unknown. The available features make it suitable for drafting, maintaining, and exporting Markdown documents without relying on an online service.

Inkwell belongs in MirrorNest’s Windows software catalog as a local writing and Markdown editing application. MirrorNest links directly to the official release instead of hosting or mirroring the software itself. It is also part of the 4Worlds anti-SaaS portable app suite, placing it within a collection focused on locally operated applications.
