About
JabRef lets researchers collect, organize, search, and cite literature while keeping bibliographic records in BibTeX, its native text-based format. It is an open-source education application for Linux, published by Oliver Kopp, and version 5.15.60000 runs on x86_64 (amd64) systems with Linux and snapd. That plain-text storage supports text-based typesetting workflows and avoids vendor lock-in.
References can be imported from more than 15 formats, added from a browser with one click through the official browser extension, or looked up using an ISBN, DOI, PubMed ID, or arXiv ID. JabRef can retrieve and link full-text articles, then fill or correct records by comparing them with curated catalogues including Google Scholar, Springer, and MathSciNet. Custom rules automatically rename and move associated files, while users can add metadata fields and reference types.
Hierarchical collections, keywords, tags, search terms, and manual assignments provide several ways to arrange a library. Advanced searching and filtering can be combined with reading markers such as ranking, priority, printed status, and quality assurance. BibTeX and BibLaTeX support fits LaTeX and Markdown, and citations can be inserted as you write in Emacs, Kile, LyX, Texmaker, TeXstudio, Vim, or WinEdt. Word and LibreOffice/OpenOffice integrations insert and format citations, while thousands of built-in citation styles can be used or customized with a new style.
It suits students, academics, and other researchers managing papers for study, writing, or collaborative literature work, and is designed to work across a user’s devices. Founded in 2003, the project is developed by a multidisciplinary team of PhD students, postdocs, and industry researchers, with volunteers contributing code, documentation, translations, and support.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
