josm

Use josm to inspect and edit OpenStreetMap data, including the geographic information behind street maps and other freely available mapping resources. It gives contributors a focused workspace for examining how mapped features are created, represented, and maintained instead of producing maps as a general-purpose graphics task. The editor is written in Java and is published by Michael Vogt for Linux users who work with OpenStreetMap or are learning open mapping practices.

You can load GPX tracks that exist independently of the OpenStreetMap database, as well as GPX track data obtained from that database. The editor also works with existing OpenStreetMap nodes and line segments, letting you examine the building blocks of mapped features. Metadata tags are supported alongside this geographic data, so relevant descriptive information can be viewed and edited with the map elements.

As an Education-category program, josm suits mapping contributors, students, and anyone studying how geographic datasets are maintained. The current version is r19613, and it is distributed under an open-source license. It requires Linux with snapd and targets x86_64 (amd64) systems.
