About
Edit Typst documents with live feedback, especially when the main writing language uses a right-to-left or bidirectional script. Katvan is a bare-bones graphical editor that keeps text direction, mathematics, and code manageable while you compose technical documents.
Its automatic isolation of math and code blocks, smart line-direction heuristics, and readily available manual BiDi controls address common editing problems in mixed-direction text. Typst syntax highlighting, spell checking, auto-completion, and syntax- and context-aware editing aids help with both prose and markup. The integrated compiler provides a live preview whose cursor follows the editor, forward and inverse search, and quick access to Typst documentation.
The editor suits authors, researchers, and developers preparing complex technical material in Hebrew, Arabic, or other right-to-left languages, as well as anyone working with bidirectional Typst content. It runs locally as a native application on Linux, Windows 10/11 with 64-bit Intel or AMD processors, and macOS, with quick startup and responsive editing while keeping data under the user’s control.
Version 0.14.0 is distributed as open-source software under the GNU General Public License version 3. Linux users can choose a self-contained package suitable for most distributions or a containerized build; Windows users can use either a portable application or a traditional installer. The macOS edition remains experimental, has no binary releases, and currently requires building from source.
Requires Linux + Flatpak · Architecture: x86_64, aarch64
