About

KeePassX lets users store usernames, passwords, URLs, attachments, and comments together in an encrypted database, replacing separate password records with one organized safe. A single master key controls access to that database and protects the complete collection of stored information. On MacOS, its light interface suits people with high demands for secure personal-data management who want to organize credentials in a dedicated password-safe application.

Each entry can have a custom title and icon, making individual accounts easier to identify. Entries can also be placed into user-defined groups, which can be customized to reflect personal categories or projects. An integrated search can scan either the selected group or the entire database.

The database is encrypted with either AES, also known as Rijndael, or Twofish, using a 256-bit key. Its file format is compatible with KeePass Password Safe, the Windows password manager from which KeePassX originated as a cross-platform port. This compatibility distinguishes it for users who may work with KeePass Password Safe alongside the Mac application.

Jussi Sainio publishes KeePassX as open-source software under the GNU General Public License. The current release includes the KeePassX 0.4.4 security update.
