About
Point linkrot at a PDF to extract its embedded hyperlinks and test their destinations, revealing which references still respond and which return errors. It examines the addresses stored in the document rather than the surrounding text or the PDF’s visual layout.
For each detected link, linkrot checks the reported status and identifies destinations that may need attention. Its results help maintain educational documents whose references can become outdated, while leaving both the PDF and the linked websites unchanged.
Educators can use it to review course handouts, lesson materials, and other PDF-based resources before sharing them. Students and anyone maintaining learning materials can also use it when verifying that embedded web references still lead somewhere useful.
Developed by Marshal A. Miller, linkrot is freeware, and the current version is 2.0. It runs on Linux and requires snapd. Supported architectures are amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, and s390x.
