Loud Bang

Loud Bang is an open-source Android application for working with WSPR beacon signals from a mobile device. It is intended for amateur radio users who need a WSPR client that can both transmit and receive signals. In the Connectivity category, it connects the phone’s audio capabilities and selected device services with an external radio setup.

For transmission, the app uses the phone’s audio output to generate beacon signals. It can also receive audio through the phone’s input and decode incoming WSPR beacons. The device camera flash can be used to trigger the radio’s transmit circuitry. When enabled, GPS automatically updates the grid location included in signals transmitted by the app.

Network access allows received packets to be sent to wsprnet.org. These functions are optional, and most related permissions are not needed when the corresponding features are disabled in settings. The optional features are disabled by default, allowing the user to enable only the device access required for the intended setup.

Loud Bang fits the Android platform because its signal input and output, camera flash, GPS, and network functions are provided through phone hardware and services. As open-source software, it is distributed under an open-source license rather than as a closed proprietary application.
