Loud Bang lets an amateur radio operator transmit and receive WSPR beacon signals from an Android phone, turning it into an RX/TX WSPR client for an external radio setup. It generates outgoing beacon audio through the phone’s audio output and listens through the audio input to decode incoming WSPR beacons. This puts both sides of WSPR operation on a mobile device for operators working with a compatible radio arrangement.

The camera flash can trigger the radio’s transmit circuitry, providing an alternative control link alongside the audio signal. When GPS is enabled, the app automatically updates the grid locator included in transmitted signals. Received packets can optionally be sent over the network to wsprnet.org.

These device-access features are optional and disabled by default, so the operator can activate only the services needed for a particular station setup. Most related permissions are unnecessary when their associated features remain disabled, while the app’s intended audience is amateur radio users operating portable or experimental WSPR stations.

Version 0.53 fixes additional timing issues. Loud Bang supports Android 4.1 and later on arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 architectures, and it is released under an open-source license.
