lWS turns an Android device into a lightweight local web server, allowing selected static pages and files to be opened through a browser. It is designed for personal sharing with only the essential server functions, rather than as a general-purpose file-transfer system.

Users set the document root by entering a path or choosing one with the optional OpenIntents file manager. The default root is the application’s private directory, where lWS creates an example index file automatically. The listening port accepts values from 1024 through 65535, uses 8080 by default, and restores invalid parameter values to their defaults. After startup, the Browser button opens the service in a local browser, while the QR code button invokes the associated QR-code application.

The server operates when Wi-Fi is connected or tethering is enabled and responds to changes in network availability. It stops automatically if the network connection is lost. lWS is not optimized or tested for many simultaneous connections or large file transfers. Selecting another readable document root requires care because anyone on the same Wi-Fi network who knows the server URL can read every file in that directory and its subdirectories without restrictions.
