About
lWS is an open-source Android application in the Internet & Browsers category. It provides a web server for static content, allowing an Android device to share selected pages and files through a browser. The application is intended as a lightweight personal solution with only essential server functions.
Its APK is smaller than 100 KB. Users can configure the document root by entering a path or selecting one through the optional OpenIntents file manager. The listening port can be set from 1024 to 65535, with 8080 as the default, and invalid parameter values are restored to their defaults. The default document root is the application’s private directory, where an example index file is created automatically. After the server starts, the Browser button can open the service in a local browser, while the QR code button can call the associated QR-code application.
lWS responds to network availability and requires a Wi-Fi connection or enabled tethering to operate. The service stops automatically when the network connection is lost. It is not optimized or tested for many simultaneous connections or large file transfers. Changing the document root to another readable path requires care because all files in that directory and its subdirectories can be read without restrictions by anyone on the same Wi-Fi network who knows the server URL.
As an Android tool, lWS fits the Internet & Browsers category by providing a small local web-serving function rather than a general-purpose file transfer system. Its source code is released under the GPL-3.0 license, so the project is distributed as open-source software. MirrorNest mirrors the official lWS build directly on its own storage and scans it for malware before publishing it.
