Marknote lets you write rich-text notes and arrange them in notebooks, keeping related learning material together instead of scattering it across separate files. Each notebook can have its own icon and accent color, making collections easier to distinguish while you work.

Notes are stored as Markdown files in the Documents folder, so they remain usable outside Marknote, and you can choose a different storage folder when needed. The sidebar can be collapsed, notes can be sorted alphabetically or by date, and focus mode leaves the editor as the main visible element. Marknote can also open Markdown files directly from a file browser or console, including front matter used by static-site generators such as Hugo and Jekyll.

Markdown support includes creating and editing tables, limited conversion of inline Markdown into rich text as you type, and customizable editor fonts; sketches can be created inside the app, and images can be dragged into notes. You can import notes from KNotes and maildir, follow links with Ctrl-click, and use visible undo and redo buttons, including in the quick sketch dialog. On small phone screens the editor toolbar can be hidden, while desktop users can drag the separator to resize the note list and editor.

Version 1.3.0 brings many bug fixes and smaller refinements, including restored window-state memory, corrected deletion dialogs, fixed double copy-and-paste behavior, a scrollable sidebar when notebooks overflow, and a main view that stays visible while sidebars are resized; the application menu was also simplified. Developed by Soumyadeep Ghosh, this open-source Education software runs on Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) systems.
