Microsoft .NET Core 3.1 Desktop Runtime lets compatible Windows desktop programs start and run on a computer. It supplies the Windows-specific runtime layer required by applications built with .NET Core. Those applications use the Microsoft.WindowsDesktop.App framework to locate the desktop components they need.
It is intended for people who need to run an existing desktop application, rather than for developers seeking the complete .NET Core development platform. .NET Core is the broader development platform maintained by Microsoft together with the .NET Core community on GitHub. As a Windows System Tools component, it supports Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2, and later supported Windows releases.
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems must have security update KB2533623 installed. Microsoft .NET Core 3.1 Desktop Runtime is freeware, and its current version is 3.1.32. On a 64-bit system, the Skip32Bit parameter can omit the 32-bit runtime, while the Passive parameter requests the native progress window; Passive may not work on Server Core.
