About
Organic Maps lets travelers save detailed maps for offline use, find places without a connection, and follow routes while walking, cycling, or driving. It relies on community-maintained OpenStreetMap data, including local places that may be absent from other map services, and was created by the MapsWithMe (MapsMe) founders with an independent community. Hikers can inspect trails, contour lines, peaks, slopes, and elevation profiles, while drivers and cyclists get turn-by-turn directions with voice guidance.
Offline search works directly on the map, and bookmarks or recorded tracks can be imported and exported as KML, KMZ, or GPX files. Dark Mode provides a darker map display, and country or regional map files are designed to use modest storage space. The Linux build has not yet reached feature parity with the Android and iPhone editions and has not been optimized for mobile devices.
It is released under an open-source license and is aimed at travelers, tourists, hikers, cyclists, and anyone navigating areas with unreliable connectivity. The project emphasizes privacy and battery savings: it has no ads, tracking, data collection, phoning home, push notifications, email spam, mandatory tutorials, or crapware, requests no registration, and avoids excessive permissions; the Exodus Privacy Project has verified the application. In version 2026.05.28-2, OpenStreetMap data is current through May 27, public-transport stops can highlight an entire selected route, bookmark labels avoid overlap, and Vietnam, Malaysia, and Tanzania are divided into smaller downloadable regions. The release also adds two million US addresses and smarter search, wraps maps smoothly across the antimeridian, separates Hong Kong, Macau, and Hainan from Guangdong, and improves cross-country routing speed while preventing some out-of-memory crashes.
Requires Linux + Flatpak · Architecture: x86_64, aarch64
