Otic sends live microphone input from an Android device across a local network, making that audio available to another device or program. It acts as the client side of an audio-streaming setup, carrying the microphone source outward instead of processing the recording into a standalone file. The app is intentionally minimal, so its role is to make a microphone available to a separate component on the same network.

Listening to the stream requires a custom receiver that can accept Otic’s audio input, and that receiver is not included with the app. Users therefore pair Otic with receiving software or hardware they can build, configure, or manage themselves. This arrangement suits Android users creating local-network audio links, as well as developers testing or integrating microphone streaming into their own projects.

Otic is open-source, allowing its implementation to be examined when assessing it for software work or a custom audio system. Version 1.0.1 runs on Android 7.0 and newer devices using arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, or x86 architectures. In this release, custom subsets of the Google Sans Flex font reduce the application’s size. Because the receiver must be supplied separately, Otic is best understood as a streaming client rather than a packaged sender-and-listener system.
