About
Define configuration once in Pkl and generate static files in JSON, YAML, Property List, or other configuration formats instead of maintaining each output by hand. Pronounced “Pickle,” Pkl is an embeddable configuration language that combines programmable templates with rich typing and validation, so configuration errors can be found before deployment. Its model scales from small, one-off settings to large, repetitive configuration systems with more involved data relationships.
Use Pkl from the command line, place it in a build pipeline, or embed it in an application for runtime configuration. Embedded projects can also generate code for Java, Kotlin, Swift, and Go, making typed configuration available within those ecosystems. Plugins and extensions support IntelliJ, Visual Studio Code, and Neovim, while the Pkl Language Server lets teams create integrations for other editors.
Pkl suits developers defining application, service, and deployment settings who need the same source data in several formats or want validation during development and delivery. It is published by Apple as open-source System Tools software for Windows on x64 hardware.
The current release is 0.32.2, the latest bugfix update after Pkl 0.32 was released on July 8, 2026; it is also the final release distributing macOS/amd64 binaries. Pkl is hosted on GitHub, where users can consult Installation, send questions through GitHub Discussions, submit issues, and follow the roadmap toward the scheduled 0.33 release in October 2026.
