About
Prime95 (UNOFFICIAL) uses an amd64 Linux computer’s spare processing capacity to search for Mersenne primes through GIMPS, while also providing a repeatable workload for checking CPU stability. It obtains assignments from PrimeNet, the project’s central server, and performs calculations as a client in the volunteer computing effort. Overclockers and system builders can use its stress and torture tests to expose instability in the processor and its L1, L2, and L3 caches, with integer and floating-point instructions creating a consistent, verifiable load.
Users run the Linux client from the command line with the -m switch, then can optionally associate the computer with a GIMPS UserID and give it a name. A UserID is optional for contributing, but it is needed to inspect account details, computer status, and performance statistics or assign computers to that identity. The software suits prime-search volunteers, overclockers, system builders, and anyone evaluating a machine under sustained computation.
Published by 林博仁 Buo-ren Lin, this commercial Linux release is version 30.19b20 and requires snapd on amd64 systems. It is an unofficial distribution rather than an official Prime95 release, and the upstream EULA may not permit redistribution of the underlying software, so users operate it at their own risk. Problems specific to the snap should be reported through the project’s own issue tracker.
This version brings major improvements to ECM stage 2 when substantial memory is available. The program automatically combines prime.txt and local.txt into a single file, making backups of those files important before installation. Upgrading during P-1 or ECM stage 2 can cause that stage to restart from scratch.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: amd64
