About
Record daily events, ideas, and notes in a desktop journal, then organize them with tags and search. Its graphical diary layout gives personal writing a dated home instead of leaving it scattered across unrelated files.
The editor formats text in bold, italic, or underlined styles and accepts images, files, and links within entries. Customizable templates help structure recurring notes, while spell checking catches errors as you write. Word clouds highlight frequently used words and tags, and the built-in backup function saves journal data as a ZIP archive.
Entries can be exported as plain text, HTML, LaTeX, or PDF for reuse outside RedNotebook. The journal is stored in plain text files, making the data future-proof and keeping ownership of personal records with the user. The software has been translated into more than 30 languages and runs on Linux, Windows, and Mac.
RedNotebook suits diarists, students, researchers, and anyone who wants searchable records of daily activities, projects, or personal reflections. Version 2.43 is open-source software released under the GPL, and its desktop format supports private, long-term journaling without tying entries to a specialized storage format.
Requires Linux + Flatpak · Architecture: x86_64, aarch64
