About

Resource Hacker lets users inspect, extract, and alter embedded resources in Windows files, then compile revised resource data into binary output. It also compiles and decompiles various resource and file types, including resource scripts and compiled resource data.

Its commands include add, addoverwrite, addskip, compile, delete, extract, and modify, supporting both interactive editing and command-line scripts. The add command fails when a resource already exists, addoverwrite replaces an existing resource, and addskip leaves an existing resource untouched. The compile command converts an *.rc resource script into a binary *.res resource file, while changelanguage(langID) changes the language of every resource in the target.

Resource Hacker is suited to software developers and technical users who need to inspect program resources, revise localized content, or prepare resource files during development. It is also useful when a resource must be extracted from one file, modified, and inserted into another as part of maintenance or localization work. The current 5.2.8 release targets Windows on x86 architecture and is published by Angus Johnson.

Version 5.2.8 fixes several minor bugs in command-line scripts and corrects a problem that could detect text encoding incorrectly. It also includes several other minor bug fixes.
