scafld makes an agent carry out multi-phase work through a deterministic protocol, giving each phase a defined progression instead of relying on chat history. It applies a review loop before code is built and after the finished diff is inspected, refusing to sign off until the required checks pass.

A separate model, isolated from the one that wrote the code, reviews the exact bytes captured in an immutable snapshot. Acceptance runs again against that same tree, and a clean result produces an Ed25519-signed receipt that CI can verify against the diff; the agent is checked as the subject, not treated as its own reviewer.

Every non-trivial task begins as a machine-readable Markdown specification with frontmatter covering objectives, scope boundaries, assumptions, size, risk, affected packages, impacted files, and architectural invariants. A human approves this contract, after which the agent proceeds phase by phase, with each transition derived from the specification and session ledger; another agent or a person can reproduce the same state, next command, and review gate. The runtime is a single native Go binary, while its prompts are Markdown files.

Any agent able to read files and execute shell commands can run the protocol, including Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and Windsurf. 0state develops scafld, whose current version is 2.5.8 and which is open-source software for Windows 10 or later and Windows Server 2016 or later on x64 systems. npm and PyPI packages act as distribution shims that retrieve the corresponding native binary from GitHub releases, and Go package documentation is indexed at pkg.go.dev.
