SchildiChat Next

SchildiChat Next lets users exchange messages across the Matrix network from an Android phone or tablet. It supports end-to-end encryption and keeps message history synchronized across multiple devices, so conversations can continue as users move between them. The app is a rewrite of SchildiChat built on Element X, bringing that foundation to Matrix communication.

Matrix lets each account use a chosen server provider instead of forcing everyone onto one service. Individuals and organizations can also operate their own Matrix servers, while users on different servers can still communicate across the network. This makes the app suitable for personal conversations, communities, and organizations that want control over where their accounts are hosted.

The app should be regarded as beta software because it does not yet include every capability expected from a fully featured chat client. Some functions may differ from, or remain unavailable compared with, the older SchildiChat implementation. It runs on Android 7.0 or newer and requires the arm64-v8a architecture.

Version 0.11.4-ex_26_6_2 updates the underlying codebase to Element X v26.06.2 and adds handling for Matrix URIs in formatted messages. It also enlarges text for messages containing only custom emotes and fixes inline-image fallback rendering in notifications, the room list, and replies. The app is released under an open-source license, allowing its code to be examined.
