About
Scribus lets you assemble text, images, and graphic elements into finished page layouts for press-ready output on a Windows desktop. It addresses the needs of people who must control the arrangement and print preparation of a publication instead of working in a general-purpose office program.
Its desktop-publishing workspace combines established publishing tools with a contemporary interface for building and refining pages. You can prepare layouts with color separations, CMYK colors, and spot colors when a project requires carefully controlled print output. The application is suited to professional page design for publications and other documents intended for production.
ICC color management helps coordinate color handling across the design workflow. Scribus also provides flexible PDF creation, allowing completed layouts to be produced in a widely used publishing format. Together, these features support work where accurate color preparation and dependable page composition matter.
The Scribus Team publishes version 1.6.6 for Windows as open-source software in the System Tools category. It fits designers, publishers, and other desktop users creating press-ready pages who need layout-focused software rather than general office features. Its workflow centers on arranging pages and preparing their final output, making it useful for print-oriented design projects.

Future Scribus 1.7.x is the new unstable series. While we will maintain Scribus 1.6.x as a stable version, most development will focus on 1.7.x and features and Qt6-based enhancements. 1.7.x.svn is developing relatively quickly with the integration of a new palette and docking system, new SVG based icons and many more features. We will look to update documentation in future 1.6.x releases and hope to launch a community documentation project in the future. We have no plans to fix issues in the 1.4.x branch of Scribus. No versions have been released for some time and the 1.6.x series is the stable series going forward. All branches are available in subversion (svn://scribus.net) as well as on our downloads links for all previously release versions. We encourage all Linux and *BSD distributions to switch their stable version to 1.6.x. Trademarks: As referred to, please see Trademarks
