SlidesWeft

SlidesWeft is a local-first presentation tool for Linux users who want to create and deliver slide decks without relying on an online service. It is designed for education and supports working without an account, a hosted service, or a network round trip. Decks are stored as folders containing a Markdown file, a CSS theme, and an assets directory, making the underlying work easy to move, merge, and keep under version control.

Authors can write slides in Markdown and preview the layout, or edit them on a canvas while the corresponding Markdown is updated. Both editing methods work on the same deck rather than creating separate versions. SlidesWeft can open and edit PowerPoint and OpenDocument presentations in place, preserving unchanged file content and copying the original aside on the first save. It also recognises Markdown decks from Marp, Slidev, and reveal.js, converting them into decks that can be edited as owned files. Templates in POTX, PPTX, OTP, or ODP format can be converted into editable CSS themes.

The application exports editable OpenDocument and PowerPoint files, PDF, self-contained HTML, PNG images, animated GIF or PNG files, and Markdown for Marp, reveal.js, and Slidev. PNG export can produce one image per slide at 1x or 2x resolution, while PDF output uses vector content rather than screenshots. Animation exports include build steps and transitions, and speaker notes can be included on formats that support them but are disabled by default. As a commercial Linux application in the Education category, SlidesWeft is available through MirrorNest, which links directly to the official release instead of hosting a mirrored copy.
