About
Look up a word, phrase, or sentence and receive dictionary information or a translation from Tiny Beast Dictionary. It searches online resources, crawls the web, and can use AI services when translating or researching language. The application also gives users locally installed dictionaries for reference when an online lookup is unsuitable.
Online Mode consults trusted web resources without requiring a dictionary database on the computer, making it practical for older laptops. Offline Mode supplies local reference material without asking users to find databases or handle dictionary file formats, though installing those dictionaries involves intensive text processing. Its large free collection covers English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Chinese, and Arabic, with entries that can include roots, etymology, country-specific variations, and idioms associated with kaikki.org.
Students, translators, language learners, and anyone comparing wording across languages can use it for study, quick lookups, or sentence translation in the Education category. When translating selected text causes repeated GNOME Window is Ready notifications, the recommended remedy is the NoAnnoyance v2 GNOME Extension. Its interface is built with Tauri, combining ReactJS, ViteJs, and Rust into a focused desktop program.
Tiny Beast Dictionary requires Linux with snapd and an amd64 architecture. Arian Pourarian publishes version 1.12.55 as freeware.
