About
tux-math turns arithmetic practice into an arcade-style defense mission, giving children equations to solve while comets fall toward groups of penguins. As Commander Tux, the player enters an answer for each equation and uses the result to destroy its comet before it reaches an igloo. The rescue objective connects quick calculation with an immediate visual consequence, making every correct response part of the action.
The game presents repeated challenges in a space setting instead of a worksheet, with movement, targets, and timed decisions supporting practice with basic mathematics. Factoroids, introduced in version 1.7.0, adds a second activity in which players zap drifting space rocks while working on number factoring and simplifying fractions. The current version is 2.0.4, and this additional mode extends practice into fraction skills as well as ordinary equation solving.
Children building calculation speed and confidence can use tux-math for short sessions at home, while teachers and families can use its mission structure in educational settings. It can suit learners who respond more readily to arcade objectives than to static exercises. Jintao Yang is the developer, and the software is open-source. It runs on Linux with snapd and supports the x86_64 (amd64) architecture.
