About
Build touch-typing skill from the beginning or sharpen existing technique with TypingTutor - Typing Tutor for Linux, which combines guided lessons with typing-speed tests. Adaptive drills concentrate on the keys that are slowest or least accurate, helping beginners learn finger placement and experienced typists correct persistent weak spots. It runs offline on the Linux desktop, without an account or a browser, making it suited to focused practice at home, in classrooms, or during regular skills training.
Practice in words, timed, quote, or custom-text modes while live words-per-minute and accuracy readings follow your performance with an animated caret. The on-screen keyboard shows colour-coded finger zones and hints for the next key, while a per-key heatmap reveals exactly where errors and delays occur. Support for 265 languages and 200 keyboard layouts includes Hindi, Arabic, and other complex scripts, so practice can match different writing systems and keyboard setups.
Speed and accuracy history graphs show progress over time, and multiple user profiles with advanced analytics can export results as CSV. Optional low-latency key sounds provide immediate keystroke feedback, while 189 colour themes, including Ubuntu Yaru, can switch automatically or at random; focus mode fades the interface during exercises. The interface is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Version 2.2.0 supports Linux with snapd on amd64 and arm64 systems, and TypingTutor is commercial software.
