About

Virtual Radar Server receives aircraft position data and presents the traffic as plotted aircraft on a map in a web browser. Its local web server lets you view that display from any modern browser, turning a Windows computer into a browser-accessible radar screen.

It is designed to display output from an SBS-1 ADS-B receiver on a Google Maps web page, while also accepting data from other compatible receivers and software. Supported input includes Kinetic text messages, Kinetic’s SBS-3 binary format, AVR “*”, “@” and “:” formats, and Mode-S Beast binary data. This broad protocol support is a key distinction, allowing the same map interface to work with several receiver and SDR sources.

A radio capable of receiving Mode-S transmissions is required for live aircraft tracking, with the application tested using Kinetic Avionic’s SBS-1er and SBS-3 radios. Flight Simulator aircraft can also be tracked without a Mode-S receiver, making the program useful to aviation enthusiasts, home radar stations and simulator users. It suits situations where traffic needs to be monitored locally rather than through a dedicated hardware display.

Version 2.4.4 targets x64 systems and runs on Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP; Linux operation is supported through Mono. As a System Tools utility, it combines receiver integration with a map-based browser view instead of limiting users to the display supplied by their radio hardware.
