About

WebFortran Command Line Interface sends Fortran source code from a system command prompt to Approximatrix, LLC’s online compiler and brings the resulting object files back to the local machine. It provides a complete compilation path without requiring users to install a large, complicated Fortran toolchain. The interface is designed to behave like a native Fortran compiler, making it suitable for command-line build scripts and other familiar compiler workflows.

Compilation takes place on the service while the command-line interface manages the exchange of source and output files. No additional libraries or programming environments are required to use the compiler through this interface. Fortran students, researchers, and developers can use it for projects or experiments where maintaining a full local compiler environment would be cumbersome.

The current 0.8.58.0 release supports Windows 10 version 2004 and later, along with Windows Server 2022 and later, and uses the x86 architecture. All releases require Windows 10 or higher, and versions earlier than 0.5 may need to be uninstalled before the MSIX distribution can be used. Its defining distinction is that it offers remote Fortran compilation from a local command line while leaving the resulting objects available on the user’s computer.
